Nut Free Wok Newsletter

Allergy Aware Asian Fare by Sharon Wong

Hi everyone, I hope you are having a great week and are getting ready for some summer fun during the days before or after the July 4th holiday. I realized that my newsletter from last week didn't have a link to my recipe for Hiyashi Chuka, oopsies!! It's a fabulous recipe that I want you have handy!

Thank you also for responding to my poll about the # of recipes and frequency of emails. 87% of respondents like the current rate of 3 recipes per week and 13% would like 5-7 recipes per week.

Here are my top recommendations from Nut Free Wok for this week.

New and Recommended Recipes

Korean-style Soy Garlic Chicken Drumsticks

This recipe is an economical, easy dinner solution. It takes about 10 minutes to make the marinade and you can marinade for 30 minutes or overnight, and then follow my method to broil then bake the drumsticks for the juiciest, most flavorful chicken ever!! I serve it with rice (that I make in a rice cooker) and I can work on making a veggie side dish while the chicken is baking in the oven.

Fuzzy Melon with Vermicelli

This fuzzy melon dish is a popular homestyle recipe and it's not always available at Chinese restaurants. Sometimes it's listed with a non-descriptive name (maybe warm pot?!). I highly recommend making it at home, especially when it's in season during the summer.

Pasta with Chicken Sausages, Tomatoes, and Brie recipe

Here's another favorite recipe for summer. It can be served hot or warm, it's a great stand alone entree as well as a delicious side dish for summer gatherings.

Additional Updates

I would like to share a friendly reminder that now is a good time to assess your epinephrine autoinjector situation and think about whether you need to see your allergist this summer.

  • Check to see if you have enough epi for summer travel.
  • Are the epi in good condition? Do you need refills?
  • Allow extra time for delays due to prior authorizations, shipping delays, and busy allergy clinics.
  • Do you need coupons, trainers, or a refresher on how to use them? My post from 2022 is a great resource.
  • Plan ahead to order refills to pick up at a pharmacy.
  • If you use a mail-order pharmacy, allow extra time for shipping before going on vacation and check the weather to avoid extreme weather conditions.
  • Do you need to schedule an appointment to see your allergist to update your emergency care plan or school forms? Some practices book at least 4-6 weeks out, it's best to plan ahead!

Warmly,

Sharon Wong
